Spectrum Labs is seeking a principal-level hands-on engineer to join the CTO Office as a Member of the Technical Staff. This role is designed for a former CTO, founder, or principal/staff engineer with a proven track record of shipping complex software systems from scratch.
You will drive 0-to-1 innovation initiatives embedded directly within a dedicated product pod, combining deep architectural execution with client-facing authority to convert frontier technical capabilities into market-defining products.
Key Responsibilities:
0-to-1 Technical Ownership: Architect, code, and launch greenfield "needle mover" products from conception through first paying design partners. Prepare tailored demos and POCs for potential clients to help close deals.
Technical Client Leadership: Lead high-stakes technical deep dives and whiteboarding sessions with elite engineering teams (e.g., Anthropic, Google Play integrations), handling complex technical objections independently without escalation.
Product Strategy Alignment: Partner closely with the Pod Manager and product lead to shape the technical roadmap, validate architecture against early adopter needs, and refine integration specifications. Identify automation opportunities to reduce cost and time to market.
Pod Execution: Maintain high-velocity hands-on output while remaining available to resolve critical bottlenecks and support the team during crunch periods.
Required Qualifications:
8+ years of experience as a former CTO, technical co-founder, or principal/staff engineer with a history of shipping complex software systems from scratch. Elite hands-on coding and system design skills with strong exposure to modern AI paradigms (agentic workflows, red-teaming, trust & safety infrastructure). Strong commercial intuition bridging technical possibilities with revenue potential and customer pain points. Exceptional communication skills with authority to engage external technical executives and principal engineers as peers. Pragmatic, low-ego, highly autonomous operator thriving in fast-paced 0-to-1 building environments.
