Eventual is building Daft, an open-source data platform purpose-built for AI applications. Unlike traditional data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake) designed for spreadsheet-like analytics, Daft handles petabytes of multimodal data—images, video, audio, text—at scale. The platform powers critical workloads at Amazon, Mobileye, Together AI, and CloudKitchens.
As a Member of Technical Staff, you will own core product development and architecture. You'll design and ship features used immediately by customers, working closely with product and customer-facing teams to understand requirements and deliver thoughtful solutions. The role demands autonomous problem-solving on complex technical challenges, paired with mentorship from an experienced team.
Key responsibilities include designing highly reliable and resilient products; collaborating cross-functionally on requirements; writing high-quality, maintainable code; and building scalable applications and APIs for the web-based BYOC enterprise product.
The ideal candidate combines strong coding and architectural fundamentals (Rust, C++, Python, Go) with a willingness to reach for lower-level primitives when performance demands it. You should have a technical spike in at least one of these specialized areas:
• Production ML/AI Deployment: experience building/training state-of-the-art models (LLMs, VLMs, VLAs, CV models); inference optimization (batching, GPU utilization, TensorRT/ONNX Runtime); or inference frameworks (VLLM, SGLang).
• Large-Scale Distributed Systems & Query Engines: hands-on experience building or optimizing distributed data/analytical engines (Spark, BigQuery, Hadoop, Snowflake, Ray); understanding of query planning, optimization, scheduling, memory management; or operating production search/indexing clusters (Elasticsearch, Vector DBs).
• Computer Vision & Multimodal Media: handling unstructured/high-dimensional data (images, video, point clouds, audio); video/image decoding pipelines or feature representation at scale.
• Computer Graphics & Spatial Computing: 3D graphics concepts, game engines (Unreal, Unity, custom C++/Vulkan), spatial indexes, GPU acceleration, or AR/VR/spatial computing experience.
The team is based in SF Mission district with 4 days/week in-office expectation. Eventual was founded in 2022 and has raised Series A funding from Felicis, CRV, Microsoft M12, and others, with backing from Databricks and Perplexity co-founders.
