Perplexity AI is seeking an experienced software engineer to join its Acceleration team, which focuses on leveraging frontier AI capabilities to multiply the productivity and velocity of the company's technical and business operations. The role is a hybrid technical and strategic position that bridges AI product development, infrastructure engineering, developer experience, and organizational process improvement. Key responsibilities include identifying and executing high-impact opportunities to accelerate Perplexity's delivery using advanced AI tools and agents; developing deep understanding of how technical and business teams work across disciplines to identify AI leverage points; making codebases, systems, and knowledge stores legible and accessible to AI models; helping the company optimize the quality-velocity tradeoff while continuously pushing that frontier outward; staying current with frontier AI models and tools and setting an example of effective adoption across the company; making high-conviction technology bets; and collaborating with engineering leadership and recruiting to build an AI-forward culture. This is an extremely hands-on, technical role requiring both strong vision and the ability to execute. You will build prototypes and production systems, reengineer codebases and infrastructure, and help evolve processes to realize the team's vision. Ideal candidates have 5–15+ years of industry experience, with substantial focus on infrastructure, platform engineering, or developer acceleration in technically complex environments. You should use AI models and tools daily with strong intuition about their capabilities and limitations. Proficiency in Python is required; experience with or willingness to learn Rust, TypeScript, Go, and other languages is valued. You need broad working knowledge of AI product and applied research company stacks (e.g., understanding CUDA, distributed training, inference optimization) and an obsession with improving software legibility and reducing brittleness in both code and human processes. Experience navigating exploration-exploitation tradeoffs and balancing shipping velocity with building long-term capacity is essential.
