Perplexity is seeking a senior frontend engineer to design and build the design system that powers all Perplexity products across web, iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows. This role owns the component library, design tokens, and interaction patterns that serve as the foundation for all product teams.
You will develop core UI primitives (overlays, inputs, navigation, feedback) with APIs that scale across dozens of consuming surfaces while remaining intuitive for other teams to adopt. You'll work across the full design-token pipeline—authoring, generation, and per-platform publishing—ensuring visual consistency across five platforms. Close collaboration with the design team means translating Figma design systems into typed, testable, documented React components.
Key responsibilities include building accessible components by default (keyboard navigation, focus management, contrast, screen reader support) backed by automated coverage; migrating product surfaces from bespoke implementations onto shared primitives without breaking existing functionality; and supporting consuming teams through comprehensive documentation, visual regression testing, and on-call support.
You bring 4+ years of production frontend experience, ideally with prior work on design systems, component libraries, or shared UI platforms. You have strong expertise in React, TypeScript, and CSS, with working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG, ARIA patterns, assistive technologies). You're comfortable collaborating closely with designers on visual and interaction language, and you're motivated by building reusable, well-documented components that multiply impact across the organization.
