Monk is an AI-native accounts receivable platform for B2B companies, helping businesses get paid faster. The company is rebuilding the broken AR stack with AI, speed, and craftsmanship, currently managing over $1B in accounts receivable.
You will join as a Backend Engineer and own foundational systems that power Monk's agentic products. Your responsibilities include designing and shipping core agent infrastructure, building and maintaining financial architecture at scale, managing data layers and integrations, and owning the AI runtime environment. You'll be responsible for reliability and incident response—ensuring systems stay up and get faster as the company grows. The role emphasizes shipping fast, landing changes that help customers daily, and defaulting to action.
You bring 4+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems in TypeScript/Node. You're a T-shaped engineer with deep expertise in at least one area and broad capability across the stack. You have strong experience with Postgres, AWS, data pipelines, and observability. You understand architectural tradeoffs and know when to rebuild versus patch. You're AI-native—moving fast with AI tools while knowing exactly when not to use them. You're an owner who fixes infrastructure problems and prevents recurrence rather than filing tickets.
Bonus experience includes fintech or payments data systems, backend infrastructure for LLM or agent products, or founding/early-stage backend roles.
