Perplexity AI is hiring senior engineers for its Agents team to build AI systems and harnesses powering agentic experiences across products like Perplexity Computer, the Comet ecosystem, and the Agent API. The team combines backend, full-stack, and AI/ML engineers collaborating on frontier AI agent capabilities.
You will work on designing AI agents that navigate the digital world and perform valuable tasks for users, training action and decision models that determine how to accomplish user objectives based on complex multimodal states, and ensuring excellent experiences across desktop, mobile, headless cloud, and other environments. Key focus areas include permission architectures, payload classifiers, secure-by-design agentic capabilities, and optimal data representations for agent-environment interactions.
Responsibilities include engineering agent harnesses connecting powerful models with required environments and tools, driving cutting-edge AI capabilities across multiple product layers, developing and leveraging frontier AI models and browser technologies, maintaining high craft and quality standards in both AI performance and UX, and collaborating across engineering, design, product, and data science teams. You'll contribute to product reliability, code quality, AI evaluation, testing, and maintenance.
Required qualifications: strong foundational familiarity with the full AI product stack, proficiency in Python (with bonus experience in TypeScript, Go, or Rust), and significant experience in context engineering/tool interfaces for frontier models, post-training/reinforcement learning (especially multimodal), or browser technologies (CDP, Playwright, extensions). You need strong product intuition, comfort working in small fast-moving teams with ownership mindset, and passion for shipping delightful products.
