Cohere is seeking a Member of Technical Staff to join the Agentic Environments team. This is a hands-on, engineering-driven role focused on building production-ready AI systems at scale. You will design and implement high-performing, scalable software for training frontier models, develop tools to accelerate research and LLM training, and collaborate across engineering teams (Infrastructure, Efficiency, Serving) and scientific teams (Agent, Multimodal, Multilingual).
Key responsibilities include researching and experimenting with ideas on Cohere's cluster and data infrastructure, coordinating with multiple engineering and scientific teams, and contributing to both engineering and research depending on organizational needs. You'll have access to world-class compute resources, data, and talent.
Ideal candidates bring extremely strong software engineering fundamentals with a commitment to test-driven development, clean code, and technical debt reduction. Required technical skills include proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (JAX, PyTorch, XLA/MLIR), experience with large-scale distributed training strategies (memory/speed profiling), and familiarity with distributed training infrastructures like Kubernetes and Ray. ML and LLM academic research experience is expected.
You thrive in fast-paced, technically challenging environments, enjoy tuning and optimizing large LLM models, and are comfortable diving into complex ML codebases to identify and resolve issues. You work well with engineers at all skill levels and have a deep passion for quality work.
