You will own the end-to-end agentic developer experience at Vapi, turning fragmented agent skills, workflows, and tools into a cohesive, reliable development lifecycle. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on building internal platforms and developer tooling that materially accelerate how Vapi's engineers build, test, and ship voice agents.
In your first 30 days, you'll map Vapi's path from task to production, identify constraints on agent effectiveness, and ship improvements to sandbox, developer tooling, or validation infrastructure. By 60 days, you'll launch the first production workflow in Vapi's internal software factory, equipping background agents with context, tools, sandboxing, telemetry, and automated quality gates. By 90 days, you'll own and launch Vapi's platform for autonomous background engineering—a harness that lets agents place real calls, measure latency and conversation quality, inspect telemetry, and iterate to verified results.
You bring deep experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, or infrastructure that changed how engineers ship. You're a hands-on engineer with strong fundamentals in distributed systems, platform architecture, API design, CI/CD, and large-codebase workflows. You have practical experience with coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) on real work, understand secure agent interfaces and sandboxed runtimes, and have built or operated LLM evaluation systems. You're fluent in TypeScript, Python, or Go; comfortable with containers, databases, queues, orchestration, and cloud infrastructure; and stay current on frontier models and techniques like prompt caching and multi-agent coordination.
