Nutanix is seeking a Member of Technical Staff (MTS 4/3) to join the Cloud Data Protection (CDP) team as a sustaining engineer. This role bridges software development and customer support, focusing on resolving complex, escalated customer issues in data protection, backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery across on-premises and cloud environments.
You will work within the DevEx (Dev-Extension) team, a 70+ person organization recognized across Nutanix for solving challenging customer problems at the code level and maintaining industry-leading Net Promoter Score (NPS). The team operates primarily in the US and India, with a strong commitment to sustaining engineering excellence.
Key responsibilities include: diagnosing and debugging complex distributed systems issues; developing automation tools for root cause analysis and corrective action; engaging with customers and support teams on production issues; designing tools to improve product debuggability and serviceability; collaborating with software development, QA, documentation, and product management teams; and programming in Linux environments using robust software engineering practices.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's in Computer Science with 4+ years of industry experience (or Master's in CS); strong programming skills in C, C++, Python, or Golang for enterprise-quality software; extensive UNIX/Linux knowledge; development experience in file systems, operating systems, hypervisors, networking, or distributed systems; hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (KVM and VMware preferred); microservice architecture knowledge; and deep understanding of OS internals and distributed data management design tradeoffs.
Desirable experience includes data protection technologies (disaster recovery, backup), containerized platforms (Kubernetes), hyperscaler environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), Kubernetes custom resources and controller development, and cloud-native storage technologies.
The role operates on a hybrid basis with a minimum of 3 days per week onsite in Bengaluru to foster collaboration and team alignment.
