Nutanix is seeking an experienced Member of Technical Staff - 3 (MTS-3) to join the Prism Engineering team, responsible for the company's core management and control plane. In this role, you will be a technical leader driving the design, architecture, and implementation of critical distributed systems components that power Nutanix's hybrid multi-cloud platform.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing backend services and platform components within the Prism control plane; designing robust, secure, and performant RESTful APIs (v3/v4) for both internal and external customers; developing scalable distributed system components with focus on consistency, availability, fault tolerance, and observability; architecting system upgrade paths and deployment workflows to ensure zero-downtime operations; independently owning medium-sized features from design through production readiness; writing comprehensive tests and participating in code reviews; troubleshooting production issues; and contributing to engineering best practices and CI/CD improvements.
Required qualifications include 4+ years of professional software development experience building backend systems or distributed applications; proficiency in Golang (highly desirable) and Java or Python; hands-on experience building REST APIs and/or gRPC services; good understanding of Linux/Unix fundamentals, multithreaded programming, and networking concepts; experience with unit testing, integration testing, Git, and CI/CD pipelines; and strong analytical and debugging skills for complex multi-node system failures.
Preferred qualifications include experience with containers and Kubernetes; familiarity with TLS, x509 certificates, and authentication systems; knowledge of working with Agentic AI tools such as Cursor and Claude Code; and a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
