Salary: USD 200,000 - 240,000 / annual

Boulder Care is a Series C-funded digital clinic specializing in addiction medicine and substance use disorder treatment. The company delivers fully virtual, multidisciplinary care—including medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and peer recovery support—across a growing multi-state platform. The Medical Director is a physician leader within Medical Affairs who ensures delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, scalable substance use disorder treatment. This role combines deep addiction medicine expertise with systems thinking, quality leadership, and cross-functional partnership. The Medical Director shapes clinical standards, quality strategy, service line evolution, and clinical governance while partnering closely with Clinical Services, Product, Operations, and executive leadership. Key responsibilities include: **Clinical Quality & Governance:** Serve as senior clinical leader and addiction medicine subject matter expert. Partner with Clinical Services to strengthen clinical quality, consistency, and patient safety. Lead review and refinement of clinical protocols, formulary standards, and evidence-based practice guidelines. Support quality assurance, chart review, and clinical audits. Provide consultation on complex cases and emerging clinical issues. Ensure clinical standards align with evidence, regulatory requirements, and payer expectations. **Clinical Leadership Development:** Strengthen clinical leadership capabilities across the organization. Provide mentorship and coaching to clinical leaders and clinicians. Establish standards of clinical excellence and evidence-based practice. Contribute physician leadership to clinician education, onboarding, and ongoing development. Support systems promoting accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement. **Clinical Operations & Process Improvement:** Translate quality findings and evidence into scalable clinical workflows. Identify gaps in processes, policies, and infrastructure. Support implementation of new clinical initiatives. Drive adoption of new workflows and care models across distributed clinical workforce. **Service Line Development & Innovation:** Evaluate and support expansion into new service lines and care models. Assess clinical readiness, staffing, protocol requirements, and quality implications. Ensure new services have appropriate governance and outcome measurement. **Cross-Functional Partnership:** Serve as clinical liaison to Product, Operations, Analytics, and other teams. Translate clinical priorities into product requirements and workflows. Provide clinical input on care delivery technology, clinical decision support, and AI-enabled workflows. Ensure changes are evaluated through patient safety, clinician experience, and quality lenses. Within 12–18 months, the Medical Director will strengthen clinical quality systems, advance clinical governance and protocol development, support leadership development, contribute to service line expansion, and build infrastructure for continued growth. The role reports to the SVP & Head of Medical Affairs and works closely with the VP of Clinical Care and Clinical Services leadership. This is a full-time remote position with 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday during standard business hours. Domestic travel is expected 2–3 times per calendar year. The role requires a dedicated, private workspace with a lockable door and high-speed internet for HIPAA compliance. **Requirements:** - Board Certification in Addiction Medicine with active medical license in good standing - Minimum 5 years of clinical experience caring for patients with substance use disorders - Demonstrated experience leading clinicians, clinical programs, or multidisciplinary healthcare teams - Experience building or scaling clinical programs, quality initiatives, care delivery models, or healthcare teams in a growing organization - Experience developing and implementing clinical protocols, workflows, and evidence-based standards across multiple clinicians or sites - Demonstrated success leading change and driving adoption of new clinical practices or operational processes - Experience using data and quality metrics to identify opportunities and improve clinical performance - Exceptional communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills - Ability to influence across functions and lead through partnership in complex organizations **Preferred Experience:** - Telehealth, digital health, or technology-enabled care delivery - Serving Medicaid and other publicly insured populations - Partnering with Product, Operations, Analytics, or Engineering teams - Familiarity with AI-enabled clinical workflows and healthcare technology innovation - Developing clinical leaders and supporting leadership growth - Multi-state clinical leadership experience **Geographic Eligibility:** Candidates must be located in AL, AK, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, KS, ID, IN, MD, MI, NH, NM, NY, NC, NV, OH, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, or WY. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; visa sponsorship is not available.
