Salary: USD 180,000 - 270,000 / annual
Cantina Labs is a social AI company building real-time conversational AI platforms that enable natural interactions between people and AI characters. The Media Team is responsible for the infrastructure powering live conversations, including low-level media processing pipelines, speech recognition and synthesis integration, and globally distributed WebRTC-based infrastructure for real-time voice and video across iOS, Android, and web platforms.
As a Media Software Engineer focused on Speech, you will improve real-time speech and media systems at the core of the Cantina experience. Key responsibilities include reducing latency and optimizing responsiveness across audio streaming and speech pipelines, building tools to enable AI model creation for speech processing, developing new voice and video capabilities for more immersive user-AI interactions, and improving custom WebRTC infrastructure across multiple platforms.
You should have a BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience, with 3+ years as a software engineer. Required skills include strong C/C++ proficiency in professional contexts, deep grounding in computer science fundamentals (memory management, high-performance data structures, concurrent/multithreaded systems), and system programming concepts (network protocols, asynchronous I/O, distributed architectures). Object-oriented design skills and demonstrated ability to drive projects independently are essential.
Preferred qualifications include prior WebRTC, streaming protocols, or media technology experience; familiarity with media processing techniques; backend server infrastructure development; iOS/Android development experience; Node.js or Go experience; and knowledge of AI/ML techniques, particularly speech recognition and synthesis.
