Voyager Technologies is an innovative space, defense, and national security technology company developing transformative, mission-critical solutions. This Mechatronics Engineer role is based onsite in Pueblo, CO and reports to the Production Technology Development Engineering Manager.
You will design, integrate, commission, and sustain mechatronic systems spanning mechanical, electrical, and software domains in support of solid rocket motor production and energetic materials manufacturing. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced, mission-driven manufacturing environment where you will take on increasing ownership and responsibility.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and commission mechatronic systems including robotic handling, custom end-effectors, motion control, sensor integration, and electromechanical assemblies for production of solid rocket motors and energetic materials
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and continuously improve existing automated systems across the production floor to maximize uptime, process reliability, and throughput
- Integrate hardware components (robots, actuators, sensors, PLCs) with software control layers and data pipelines; develop and execute system validation plans including functional testing, acceptance testing (FAT/SAT), and associated documentation
- Author and maintain engineering documentation including schematics, test records, validation reports, and change logs in accordance with program and compliance requirements
- Identify and implement process improvements that reduce cycle time, error rates, and manual intervention across manufacturing operations
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Safety, and Compliance teams to embed mechatronics solutions into all phases of the product lifecycle
- Apply structured problem-solving and root cause analysis to resolve system failures and process deviations, supporting a strong safety and quality culture
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate design iteration, code generation, and troubleshooting workflows
Travel up to 10% within the continental United States, including possible overnights. Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 50 pounds and comfort with standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching in a manufacturing environment with required personal protective equipment.
Candidates must meet all eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain applicable state and federal explosives licenses, including minimum age of 21, drug-free workplace compliance, and successful completion of legally required background investigations. To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations (ITAR), you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline with 3 years of experience in mechatronics/automation, OR Master's degree in relevant field with 1 year of experience, OR 7 years of hands-on mechatronics and automation experience in lieu of a degree
- Demonstrated hands-on experience designing, building, and commissioning mechatronic systems including robotics, motion control, sensors, and electromechanical integration
- Experience integrating hardware across multiple subsystems including PLCs, sensors, actuators, and software control layers
- General programming aptitude with ability to read, modify, and write control or scripting code (Python, C#, C++, or equivalent)
- Experience working in at least one regulated industry (aerospace, defense, chemical, or similar) with demonstrated commitment to safety culture and ability to operate within rigorous regulatory environments including OSHA and ITAR
- Strong documentation habits with test records, validation reports, engineering change logs, or equivalent; excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to convey technical concepts to cross-functional stakeholders
- Strong self-starter with ability to solve complex problems from first principles with minimal supervision, both independently and as a contributing team member in a fast-paced startup environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with energetic materials, explosives, or other hazardous manufacturing environments (C1D1/C2D1 or equivalent)
- Familiarity with machine learning or AI-assisted applications in manufacturing contexts, such as vision-based inspection, predictive maintenance, or adaptive process control
