The company is mass-producing advanced satellite platforms for missions from LEO to deep space, with multiple launches planned for 2027 and scaling to 100 satellites per year. As a Mechanisms Manufacturing Engineer, you will partner with the Mechanisms Engineering team to ensure manufacturability, build first prototypes, design build flows and fixturing, and finalize processes for production transition. You will work on complex electromechanical assemblies including rotational actuators, separation mechanisms, gimbals, and reaction wheel assemblies. In your first 6 months, you will develop manufacturing methods and tooling for mechanisms, define manufacturing flows for subsystems, build test articles to support engineering development and qualification campaigns, and provide Design-for-Excellence (DFX) guidance across mechanisms, machined components, and assemblies. In your first year, you will implement advanced manufacturing techniques on flight hardware and transition technologies to high-rate production. Key responsibilities include: - Providing DFX guidance to mechanical design engineers for initial design, flight hardware, and tooling - Developing innovative manufacturing systems for large spacecraft mechanisms, electromechanical sub-assemblies, harnessing, welded/bolted structures - Creating custom tools and processes, including Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software - Demonstrating advanced manufacturing techniques on prototypes and improving design manufacturability - Developing efficient subassembly build flows and production flows - Partnering with advanced manufacturing engineers on R&D of novel manufacturing technologies - Building test articles and supporting qualification test campaigns Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, or other relevant engineering discipline - 3+ years of experience in high-volume, rapid production environment in manufacturing, integration, and/or design engineering role - Experience with mechanisms-specific industry standards: NASA-STD-5017 (Design and Development Requirements for Mechanisms), AIAA S-114 (Moving Mechanical Assemblies for Space and Launch Vehicles), and environmental qualification standards (SMC-S-016, GSFC-STD-7000) - Experience providing DFX guidance to design teams across mechanisms, machined components, and mechanical assemblies - Demonstrated results with product development and/or process improvements - Experience setting up manufacturing/production floor for first article builds - Experience designing and implementing technologies for mechanisms manufacturing including wire harness manufacturing and complex mechanical assembly - Experience with GD&T and mechanical assembly drawings, with ability to review and provide feedback on electrical and mechanical designs Nice to have: - Familiarity with precision bearing standards (ABMA) and bearing preload techniques - Experience designing tooling for mechanical and electromechanical subassemblies - Experience designing hardware for manufacturability - Demonstrated experience developing production processes from ground up - Experience working closely with technicians and building tooling - Experience with aerospace manufacturing standards (torque specifications, welding standards, quality assurance) - Familiarity with CAD software (NX or equivalent) - Experience with MES for procedure creation and non-conformance documentation - Experience with wire harness manufacturing and integration
