Astro Mechanica is a vertically integrated aerospace company developing supersonic aircraft and advanced propulsion systems. The company's mission is to democratize high-speed flight through flexible, accessible, and sustainable technology, including their proprietary Duality™ dual-use propulsion system. In the near term, they are developing adaptable, high-speed systems for the U.S. government. As a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer, you will own hardware design from concept through production, with direct impact on the demonstrator aircraft's configuration and performance. You will shepherd novel airframe integration and component hardware from initial design through analysis, qualification, vehicle integration, and flight testing. Key responsibilities include: performing trade studies and first-order analyses to inform design and system architecture decisions; completing detailed component designs and drawings with structural, thermal, and fluid validation; collaborating with propulsion, structures, avionics, controls, and manufacturing teams; working with suppliers to specify and qualify components; developing and conducting hardware test plans; providing hands-on support during prototyping, builds, ground testing, and flight campaigns; and participating in technical reviews and safety analyses. You should have a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field, with 2–5+ years of experience designing, integrating, or testing fluid or mechanical systems. Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, precision measurement, and GD&T is essential. Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (NX, CATIA V5, SolidWorks, or similar) is required. You must understand mechanical systems, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer fundamentals and analysis methods, with hands-on experience in fabrication, assembly, or testing. The ideal candidate takes initiative for continuous improvement and thrives in fast-moving, evolving development environments. The company operates a flat structure with a five-day-per-week in-office expectation to foster collaboration and culture.
