Heron Power is building next-generation power electronics to accelerate grid modernization and electrification. As a Mechanical System Integration and Test Engineer, you will own the full lifecycle of mechanical fixtures, test infrastructure, and reliability validation for medium-voltage power converters.
You will architect and design manufacturing and test fixtures for end-of-line functional testing, shock/vibration qualification, and ingress protection (IP) testing per IEC 60529 standards. You'll create 3D system layouts, packaging studies, and interface definitions that coordinate mechanical, electrical, thermal, and packaging subsystems. You will track integration milestones, manage mechanical-electrical interfaces (connectors, harnessing, fasteners, thermal paths), and drive resolution of schedule risks.
On the reliability side, you will develop physics-of-failure models for mechanical components, define instrumentation and data acquisition strategies (thermocouples, strain gauges, accelerometers), and execute long-duration environmental and accelerated life testing campaigns. You will lead root cause analysis on mechanical failures, translate findings into design or material changes, and verify fixes through re-test.
This role requires a hands-on mindset: you design fixtures, build them, run tests yourself, and own the data that proves designs are buildable and testable. You will have a seat at the architecture table early in the design cycle, ensuring mechanical and packaging interfaces don't fall through the cracks.
Must-haves: Bachelor's in mechanical engineering or mechatronics; 3+ years designing mechanical fixtures, test hardware, or electro-mechanical assemblies; strong 3D CAD skills (CATIA V6/3DX a plus); experience with manufacturing or environmental test fixture design; hands-on reliability modeling and failure analysis; instrumentation/DAQ strategy development; ability to define and manage mechanical-electrical interfaces; comfort with hands-on test execution; Python or MATLAB scripting for automation and data analysis.
Nice-to-haves: GD&T and tolerance analysis, DFMEA facilitation, creepage/clearance and insulation systems knowledge, thermal systems experience.
