Isar Aerospace is seeking a Senior Mechanical Ground Systems Engineer to join the Ground Systems department and contribute to the development of ground support infrastructure for rocket launch operations. Reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Ground Systems, you will take ownership of mechanical and structural subsystems that form critical parts of the launchpad and testing facilities. Key responsibilities include: designing and iterating mechanical/structural subsystems using CAD tools (Inventor, SolidWorks, NX) and numerical simulations; managing requirements between stakeholders and defining engineering change requests; creating manufacturing and integration drawings with BOMs; performing trade-off analyses from subsystem to architectural levels; selecting and procuring hardware based on requirements; writing technical documentation and conducting design reviews and risk assessments; supporting commissioning procedures and providing on-site coordination at construction and test sites. You will work closely with Propulsion Technology and Launch Vehicle engineering departments, whose requirements drive ground support equipment design. Ground systems equipment includes the Launch Table, Transporter/Erector, Hold-Down-Release Mechanism, and specialized testing and qualification equipment for propulsion systems and rocket stages. Required qualifications: B.Sc./M.Sc. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent); 3–5 years of relevant professional experience; strong knowledge of structural/mechanical engineering for heavy steel structures; practical CAD experience with GD&T and design for manufacturing/assembly; solid understanding of mechanisms engineering (kinematics, engagement mechanisms, actuation); knowledge of manufacturing processes and assembly procedures; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; hands-on experience with integration, testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis; fluent English. Bonus skills: fluent German; knowledge of rocket propulsion technology, test facilities, or launch pad design; mechanical aspects of process plant engineering; structural/thermal/vibration analysis (ANSYS, NASTRAN); hydraulic system design; experience with systems for outdoor or offshore environments. Soft skills: adaptability to changing priorities; strong organizational and attention to detail; proactive and constructive communication; self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses; team collaboration.
