Salary: USD 149,000 - 218,000 / annual
Voyager Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Engineer V specializing in Materials & Processes for Controllable Solid Propulsion systems. This is a remote role reporting to the Analysis and M&P Manager within the Strategic Systems division.
You will be responsible for the evaluation and development of metallic and non-metallic materials relevant to solid rocket motor propulsion systems, while supporting manufacturing and compliance efforts. This is a senior individual contributor role requiring deep expertise across multiple technical domains.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct detailed characterization of advanced ceramic properties, insulator materials, and advanced metal types
- Develop customized material solutions and lead research projects
- Provide expert consultation on metal selection for challenging, extreme-environment applications
- Demonstrate expertise in refractory metals, their properties at extreme temperatures, and processing techniques
- Lead evaluation, selection, and qualification of metallics, non-metallics, composites, and electronic parts for extreme environments
- Specify and evaluate complex additive manufacturing, mechanical assembly, composite layups, machining, molding, casting, and welding processes
- Author and contribute to compliance documentation including PMP/PMAP, MUA/MUIL, and failure analysis reports
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science Engineering or related field with 10-15 years of experience, OR Master's degree in Materials Science Engineering with 8-13 years of experience
- Familiarity with standards such as MIL-STD-1546/-1547, SMC-S-009/-010, and NASA-STD-6016
- Knowledge of materials allowable development and test campaign development
- Understanding of mechanical design concepts for high-precision hardware
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
