Saronic Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Special Programs team, a small, fast-moving group chartered to rapidly prototype and validate new autonomous maritime platforms and edge devices. This role offers hands-on involvement across the full product development lifecycle—from concept generation and CAD design through physical prototyping, testing, and field validation. You will design and develop mechanical assemblies and systems for autonomous surface vessels and related hardware, working on complex challenges including structures, linkages, electromechanical components, and subsystems optimized for harsh marine environments. Responsibilities include generating initial concepts and engineering drawings, performing rapid prototyping and experimentation, evaluating designs for reliability, sourcing components through vendor partnerships, and supporting government demonstrations and field testing. The ideal candidate brings experience building complex systems from scratch, ideally in marine, aerospace, robotics, or automotive hardware development. Proficiency in CAD tools (Solidworks, NX) is required; fabrication skills (machining, welding, hand tools) are a plus. You should be comfortable with high uncertainty, minimal resources, compressed timelines, and aggressive schedules—hallmarks of a startup special programs environment. Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills are essential. This is a full-time, in-office role in Austin, TX. The position requires U.S. Person status due to export-control requirements. Saronic offers competitive salary, equity options, comprehensive health/dental/vision insurance (company pays 100% for employees, 80% for dependents), generous PTO, paid parental leave, 401(k), life/disability insurance, and office perks including free lunch and unlimited snacks.
