Salary: USD 129,000 - 171,000 / annual
Anduril Industries is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Space team, which develops AI-powered hardware and software systems for U.S. military and allied partners. The Space team focuses on Space Domain Awareness, Space Control, and Command and Control capabilities, building fully integrated systems including Lattice for Space Missions and modular payloads.
In this role, you will own hardware design from concept through launch, including CAD modeling, hand calculations, prototyping, and analysis. You'll apply first-principles thinking to simplify designs and communicate architectural trade-offs to stakeholders. Key responsibilities include leading subsystem design reviews, presenting technical status to team members, and serving as the Responsible Engineer for your subsystem—running analyses, visiting vendors, and defining/executing hardware test plans.
You'll build prototypes, analyze failures, and transition successful designs to flight hardware and low-rate production. Travel to test sites and vendors is expected. You'll create comprehensive technical documentation including slide packages, test plans, procedures, assembly instructions, drawings, vendor specifications, and statements of work.
Required qualifications include a BS or higher in engineering or hard science, hands-on experience with technical projects (collegiate or professional), proficiency in CAD (any platform), demonstrated fabrication and assembly skills (hand tools, mill, lathe), and strong fundamentals in heat transfer, statics, solid mechanics, and materials. You must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, organized, and eligible to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
Preferred qualifications include 2+ years of professional mechanical design experience with space hardware or equivalent complexity, NX/Teamcenter experience, ability to integrate electronic components (PCBAs, motors, sensors), experience with optical or RF systems, coding skills in Python/MATLAB/C++ for analytical models and data acquisition, and structural or thermal testing experience.
