Swarm Aero is building autonomous UAV swarms designed to operate in contested environments where reliability is critical. The company is developing the largest swarming UAV platform and Command & Control software to coordinate thousands of heterogeneous autonomous assets. The team brings deep aerospace expertise from companies like Scaled Composites, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin, and Boom Supersonic.
As a Mechanical Engineer focused on Routed Systems, you will design and develop aircraft electrical systems including power distribution, wire harness routing, connector selection, and load analysis. You'll work closely with mechanical, structures, and systems engineering teams to integrate avionics devices and cabling into the airframe, specifying or creating necessary mounts, brackets, and shelving. Your responsibilities include defining avionics interface requirements, developing electrical schematics and wiring diagrams using industry-standard design tools, and ensuring electrical routing, grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC requirements are met across subsystems.
You will support flight test anomaly investigation, drive root cause analysis on avionics and electrical faults, and contribute to airworthiness documentation and flight authorization packages. This role requires hands-on experience taking avionics and electrical systems from design through hardware integration and flight test, with comfort working across hardware, software, and test disciplines in a fast-moving environment.
Required qualifications include 3+ years of avionics or aircraft electrical engineering experience on aerospace, defense, or UAS platforms; hands-on experience with aircraft electrical system design including power distribution and wire harness design; strong familiarity with aerospace connector and cable families; proficiency with wiring harness design tools (Zuken, Capital, Artifact, or equivalent) and cable routing tools (Solidworks/Catia Electrical, NX Electrical, CreoParametric, or equivalent); and US person status. Active security clearance is a plus.
Nice-to-have skills include UAS/unmanned aircraft program experience, Python scripting for electrical-to-CAD integration, MIL-STD-461 testing and EMI/EMC analysis, familiarity with DO160, MIL-STD-704, and AS50881 standards, IPC/WHMA-A-620 harness standards, defense program experience, sheet-metal or composites design, PCB design, and general scripting experience.
