Salary: USD 129,000 - 171,000 / annual

Anduril Industries is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Propulsion Development team in Santa Ana. The Propulsion team designs, develops, and qualifies engines powering Anduril's family of autonomous air vehicles, operating on accelerated timelines—taking engines from concept through prototype, test, and production in months rather than years. In this role, you will own mechanical design and development of propulsion components and assemblies, driving the process from initial concept through low-rate production. You'll lead technical efforts to define requirements, propose solutions, and establish methodologies for evaluating and verifying mechanical systems. Close collaboration with electrical, software, and mechanical disciplines ensures reliable, flexible, and cost-effective integrated systems. Key responsibilities include spearheading design reviews, conducting analysis, visiting vendors, prototyping, and implementing hardware test plans. You'll balance operational needs across engine subsystems while optimizing for performance, mass, manufacturability, and cost. You'll actively contribute to enhancing team tools, templates, processes, and standards, and support critical hardware demonstrations with customers as needed. Travel to test sites and vendors is required. Required qualifications: BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering; 2+ years in a technical engineering role (or equivalent through Formula SAE, Baja SAE, personal projects, or internships); proven CAD skills producing high-quality engineering models and drawings; strong understanding of machine design, mechanisms, fluids, thermal, and structures; hands-on prototyping, fabrication, and assembly skills including shop tools, machining, and soldering; knowledge of manufacturing processes (CNC machining, 3D printing, castings, sheet metal, composites) and design for manufacturability; US Person status required for export-controlled data access. Preferred qualifications include hands-on engine design, assembly, or testing experience; solid GD&T understanding for high-speed rotating machinery; NX/Teamcenter experience including design release management; Python, MATLAB, or similar engineering analysis tools; experience integrating electromechanical components.
