Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Omen team at their Costa Mesa headquarters. Omen is an autonomous hover-to-cruise air vehicle (AAV)—a tail-sitter eVTOL platform with exceptional endurance, payload capacity, and mission flexibility. It operates from ship decks, beaches, and remote clearings without requiring runways, serving both defense and civilian applications. Omen has secured a mass-production contract for 50 systems.
In this role, you will own mechanical systems and platform development from concept through low-rate production. You'll lead technical efforts to define requirements, propose solutions, and establish methodologies for evaluating and verifying mechanical systems. Core responsibilities include designing and optimizing avionics, batteries, mechanisms, structures, sensors, and payloads. You will collaborate closely with electrical, software, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated, reliable, cost-effective systems.
Key activities include spearheading design reviews, conducting structural and thermal analysis, visiting vendors, prototyping, and implementing hardware test plans. You'll balance operational needs across vehicle subsystems while optimizing for development speed, mass, manufacturability, and cost. You'll also support critical hardware demonstrations with customers and travel to test sites and vendors as needed.
Required qualifications include 4+ years of professional engineering experience, proficiency in CAD (NX preferred), strong fundamentals in structures, fluids, thermal, and mechanisms, and hands-on fabrication skills (machining, welding, soldering). MATLAB/SIMULINK/SIMSCAPE experience, manufacturing knowledge, rapid prototyping background, and 3D printing expertise are essential. A BS or MS in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) and eligibility for a U.S. Secret security clearance are required.
Preferred qualifications include NX/Teamcenter expertise, ability to integrate electronic components, GD&T proficiency, advanced design skills for CNC machining and composites, flight hardware qualification experience, and familiarity with MIL-STD standards. Formula SAE or similar competition experience is a plus.
