Salary: USD 120,000 - 190,000 / annual
Heron Power is a startup building cutting-edge power electronics for grid modernization, focusing on scalable converters (inverters and rectifiers) to connect large-scale renewables, storage, and loads. The company is led by veterans with a track record of designing and shipping gigawatts of power conversion products.
As the Industrial Enclosures Mechanical Engineer, you will design and deliver high-volume, shipping-container-sized enclosures for power converters within a small, multidisciplinary engineering team. You will own designs from concept through high-volume production, applying first-principles engineering to optimize parts and assemblies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing mass-manufacturable parts and assemblies for large industrial enclosures, including structural plastics, electrical insulators, seals, and various joint types (welded, riveted, bolted, adhesive)
- Creating 3D designs and 2D drawings using CATIA V6/3DX
- Performing structural and tolerance analysis to optimize designs
- Conducting hands-on prototyping and testing
- Collaborating with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and reliability engineers, plus external suppliers
- Ensuring designs meet ingress ratings and environmental requirements
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or similar
- 5+ years designing outdoor-rated industrial enclosures for electromechanical parts/assemblies
- 5+ years working with 3D CAD (CATIA V6/3DX preferred)
- Strong engineering fundamentals and basic electronics understanding
- Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes (sheet metal, stamping, injection molding, die-casting, extrusion, fastening, riveting, welding, dispensing)
- Knowledge of ingress ratings and seals
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Nice-to-haves include FEA/CFD experience, GD&T expertise, reliability testing knowledge, PLM familiarity, and experience with medium-voltage grid products.
