Voyager Space is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III - Design to join their defense and space technology team in Reno, Nevada. This role focuses on advanced mechanical design and engineering for mission-critical aerospace and defense systems. Key responsibilities include: Design & Analysis: Apply fundamental and advanced design principles to develop actuators, solid rocket motor systems, hot gas valves, and thrusters. Perform complex design challenges, stress analysis, pressure vessel design, and igniter performance analysis. Conduct trade studies, analyze design alternatives, and provide engineering recommendations. CAD & Modeling: Create intricate 2D and 3D designs using CAD tools with expertise in GD&T interpretation. Generate complex assemblies, technical drawings, and precise documentation. Advanced Analysis: Execute CFD simulations, structural analysis, dynamic modeling, thermal analysis, and tolerance studies. Interpret, validate, and optimize results to inform design decisions. Materials & Manufacturing: Demonstrate expertise in ceramic properties, advanced metal alloys, refractory materials, and material characterization. Understand additive manufacturing, carbon composites, machining, welding, molding, and casting processes. Collaborate on manufacturing planning and process improvements. Ballistics & Propulsion: Possess comprehensive knowledge of propellant chemistry, combustion mechanisms, grain configuration design, and solid propellant formulation and manufacturing. Systems Engineering: Contribute to mass budgets, mass reduction efforts, program planning, acquisition lifecycle understanding, and risk management. Apply reliability and safety principles with advanced requirements analysis skills. Communications: Excel at technical presentations, complex reporting, and cross-functional collaboration. Required: 4-7 years of mechanical engineering experience. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university (equivalent experience may be considered).
