Form Energy is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join the Electrode Mechanical Engineering team within the Core Technology group. This role focuses on designing and developing battery anode and cathode components for Form Energy's utility-scale iron-air energy storage systems, bringing designs from concept through mass production. You will lead on-the-ground design efforts including failure analysis, specification setting, and electrode mechanical design updates. Responsibilities include hands-on prototyping, cross-functional collaboration on requirements definition and verification plans, and working with manufacturing and process engineers to optimize designs for production. You'll transition designs from prototype stage to high-volume manufacturing, run and analyze trials to inform specifications, and drive verification testing of your work. The role emphasizes design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), particularly for formed/stamped sheet metal and injection-molded plastic components. You'll troubleshoot design problems as they arise and work with the broader Electrode Engineering team to implement improvements. Communication with vendors, manufacturing engineers, and technical operations is essential to deliver production-ready designs. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 2+ years of industry experience in mechanical design. You must be proficient in CAD (specifically SolidWorks), component design for mass manufacturing, prototyping techniques, and have experience working in machine shops or production environments. Familiarity with mechanical verification testing is required. Experience with batteries, energy storage, fuel cells, or electrolyzers is a plus. The position is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV, a 550,000-square-foot high-volume battery production facility near Pittsburgh. Relocation assistance is available. Form Energy offers competitive salaries, stock options, comprehensive benefits including 100% medical/dental/vision premiums for employees, 12-20 weeks paid parental leave, and generous vacation policies.
