Apex manufactures satellite buses (spacecraft platforms) at scale, combining software, vertical integration, and hardware designed for manufacturing. The company serves the rapidly growing commercial space industry, enabling earth observation, communications, and other critical applications. As a Mechanical Engineer – Ground Systems (MGSE), you will design, build, and support the mechanical equipment that enables spacecraft integration, testing, and launch operations. This is a hands-on role requiring close collaboration with engineering, test, and manufacturing teams. Key responsibilities include: - Design mechanical ground support equipment using 3D CAD tools (NX/CATIA) - Create detailed part drawings, assembly models, and bills of materials - Develop and review load paths, fixture stability, and stress margins using hand calculations and FEA - Support integration, assembly, and test campaigns with real-time mechanical expertise - Create comprehensive documentation packages detailing MGSE use cases and capabilities - Build and refine procedures for MGSE use in cleanroom and floor operations - Collaborate cross-functionally with systems, electrical, software, and test teams Required qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field - 2+ years of mechanical design or test support experience (master's degree may substitute) - Proficiency in 3D CAD software (CATIA preferred) - Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerancing, and structural analysis - Familiarity with manufacturing methods, materials, and inspection processes - U.S. Person status required for export-controlled data access Preferred experience includes MGSE in aerospace/satellite environments, lifting/rigging hardware, fluid or pneumatic systems, FEA tools (ANSYS, NASTRAN), integration & test operations, cleanroom practices, and launch campaigns. The ideal candidate is comfortable working hands-on with hardware and supporting floor operations.
