Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming military capabilities through advanced autonomous systems, AI, and sensor fusion. The Tactical Recon & Strike team develops small tactical drones (Group 1-3) and associated equipment for testing, deployment, and operations, including products like Ghost, Anvil, Bolt, and Altius.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will own complex mechanical subsystems for drone products from concept through full-rate production. Key responsibilities include gathering requirements and conducting trade studies to determine optimal solutions, performing hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) to develop and optimize designs, and leading design reviews with cross-disciplinary partners. You will build prototypes, define and execute hardware test plans, iterate on designs, and document results and lessons learned.
Additional duties involve performing root cause investigations for hardware failures in development and production, balancing operational needs across vehicle subsystems while optimizing for development speed, mass, manufacturability, and cost, and supporting critical hardware demonstrations with customers. Travel to test sites and vendors is required as needed.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of mechanical/design experience in a professional setting with demonstrated ownership of products from concept through production. You must have strong CAD skills (any platform) and the ability to create high-quality engineering drawings meeting industry standards. Hands-on prototyping proficiency (machining, shop tools, welding, soldering) is essential, along with a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals in structures, fluids, thermal dynamics, and mechanisms. You should demonstrate project/technical leadership skills from collegiate or professional settings and the ability to summarize technical content cohesively. A BS or MS in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience is required.
Preferred qualifications include experience with Solidworks or NX CAD software and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems.
