Havoc AI, founded in 2024 and headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, is a leader in all-domain collaborative autonomy. The company develops software-defined hardware for military and commercial-grade autonomous systems across sea, air, and land, enabling assets to sense, decide, and act together in complex and contested environments.
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team. This is a mechanical-first role where you will lead and contribute to the mechanical design and integration of new systems and payloads for our uncrewed surface vessels. You will work closely with electrical and software engineers to deliver hardware that is robust, manufacturable, and field-ready.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading mechanical design and integration of new systems, payloads, structures, enclosures, mounts and overall system packaging
- Creating detailed SolidWorks models, assemblies and drawings for structures, housings, brackets, mounts and mechanisms built for marine environments
- Supporting electrical integration by defining mechanical interfaces, routing paths, mounting solutions, cable routing, strain relief, connector mounting and environmental protection
- Participating in hardware builds, subsystem and bench testing, vehicle integration and troubleshooting to validate designs
- Collaborating across mechanical, electrical and software engineering teams to specify, design, build, test and integrate mechanical subsystems and electromechanical components
- Producing and maintaining accurate CAD drawings, bills of materials, interface control documents (ICDs), test results and configuration management records
- Partnering with technicians and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, serviceable and built for rugged marine environments
The ideal candidate is highly skilled in mechanical design and CAD, has taken complex mechanical systems from concept through production, and is comfortable working with electrical engineers to define interfaces without being the primary electrical designer.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design and system integration
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks for modeling and drafting
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems, materials, tolerances and structural design
- Familiarity with electrical systems to support integration (connectors, harness routing, grounding, environmental sealing)
- Hands-on experience prototyping, assembling, testing and troubleshooting mechanical and electromechanical systems
- Experience on cross-functional engineering teams integrating subsystems into complete platforms
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a Secret security clearance
- Ability to work onsite at North Kingstown, RI office at least 3 days per week
Preferred skills include payload integration experience on uncrewed vehicle systems (especially maritime or aerospace), familiarity with harness routing and enclosure design, knowledge of thermal management and sealing for embedded hardware, experience with design for manufacturability and ruggedized/marine systems, strong troubleshooting and field-support mindset, and experience with additive manufacturing.
