Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Production Engineering Team for the Rocket Motor Systems (RMS) division. This role focuses on designing, developing, and implementing critical production tooling for advanced solid rocket motors. You will take holistic ownership of the complete lifecycle of specialized manufacturing tooling—from initial concept and detailed design through prototyping, validation, full release, and factory floor implementation. You will serve as the design authority for a diverse range of tooling including jigs, fixtures, molds (for propellant casting and insulation), assembly aids, test fixtures, and specialized ground support equipment critical for solid rocket motor production. Key responsibilities include: - Leading the end-to-end lifecycle of manufacturing tooling for solid rocket motors - Serving as design authority for jigs, fixtures, molds, assembly aids, and test fixtures - Driving the design process using advanced CAD software, FEA, DFM, DFA, and simulation to ensure robust, repeatable, ergonomic tooling optimized for high-rate manufacturing - Taking full ownership of prototyping and validation phases, overseeing fabrication, assembly, testing, and iterating on designs - Spearheading transition from design to production release, including comprehensive documentation, work instructions, maintenance procedures, and quality control plans - Collaborating with internal manufacturing teams, quality engineers, and external vendors to define requirements, manage fabrication, troubleshoot issues, and improve tooling performance - Applying rigorous DFM and DFA principles to both product and tooling design - Acting as primary technical resource for all tooling matters, providing expert guidance throughout the manufacturing value chain The Production Engineering Team is positioned at the intersection of innovative design and scalable manufacturing, serving as the critical link between concept and warfighter delivery at speed and scale. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related technical field - 3-8+ years of professional experience in mechanical engineering with significant focus on manufacturing or production engineering - Proven track record of holistic ownership over mechanical design projects from concept through full production release and implementation - Direct experience designing, prototyping, and implementing production-grade manufacturing tooling (jigs, fixtures, molds, assembly aids, test fixtures) - Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, CATIA) and demonstrable FEA experience for mechanical analysis and design validation - Strong understanding and application of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles - Deep knowledge of various manufacturing processes (machining, welding, additive manufacturing, casting, composite fabrication) and their application in tooling design - Experience understanding and implementing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 - Strong self-starter who takes initiative, operates effectively with minimal external guidance, and resourcefully gathers information to overcome obstacles - U.S. Person status required due to access to export-controlled data PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience with manufacturing processes specific to solid rocket motors, energetic materials, or highly regulated/critical aerospace components - Direct experience designing complex molds for energetic materials (propellant casting), insulation, or composite structures - Expert-level proficiency in GD&T per ASME Y14.5 - Experience in aerospace, defense, or energetics industries, particularly with high-reliability or safety-critical systems - Proven experience managing external vendors and suppliers for tooling fabrication, including technical oversight and quality assurance - Demonstrated ability to lead small technical projects or mentor junior engineers - Advanced proficiency in Siemens NX and demonstrated experience with Teamcenter for engineering data management and design collaboration
