Join Isar Aerospace's Avionics department as a Mechanical Design & Routing Engineer, where you'll be a core member of the Harness & Structures team designing the complete launch vehicle harness and in-house developed avionics units. You will serve as the product owner for mechanical design of several avionics units across current and next-generation launchers, owning the full lifecycle from concept through production while managing interfaces and ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
Key responsibilities include executing mechanical design of avionics units in close alignment with electrical designers and system stakeholders; owning design configuration and tracking requirements with verification; developing company-wide design standards and managing design changes through established processes. You'll execute harness routing for launch vehicles, planning and modeling harness paths in 3D environments with attention to bundling, clamping, and routing optimization. Additional duties encompass generating production documentation (assembly instructions, harness drawings, work instructions), designing test fixtures and jigs, identifying process improvements, interpreting system-level diagrams, and supporting integration, testing, and production activities to ensure manufacturability and installation feasibility.
You'll work in a fast-paced R&D environment with interdisciplinary collaboration across structures, propulsion, sensor, and actuator teams. The role requires extensive mechanical design experience from concept to production, proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or Siemens NX), and deep knowledge of 3D harness design and routing. Strong background in metallic component production, DFMA best practices, materials, thermal analysis, FEM, and aerospace testing methods (vibration, shock) is essential. Aerospace standards familiarity and hands-on harness assembly experience are valued.
