Mind Robotics is building Physical AI systems for industrial deployment, starting with factory automation. The company is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to own the mechanical architecture of Mind's wearable data collection platform, encompassing both head-worn and body-worn devices. In this role, you will be the primary mechanical architect responsible for the wearable platform's evolution across generations. You will set mechanical requirements that the optics, electrical, and compute teams design against, including volume and keep-out budgets, alignment and stiffness targets, thermal limits, and mass allocation. You will own critical tradeoff decisions when budget conflicts arise and determine which mechanical problems each device generation addresses versus deliberately defers. You will develop and own the build and tooling strategy for the platform, deciding what is printed, machined, molded, or purchased; when tooling commitments are made; and which molders, soft goods vendors, and contract manufacturers Mind builds long-term relationships with. You will establish mechanical standards across all hardware teams, including design review processes, tolerance analysis practices, materials and skin-contact qualification protocols, and DFM expectations for vendors. This is a hands-on role. You will build, test, and break prototypes with real users, and personally conduct tolerance, structural, drop, and thermal analyses that inform architectural decisions. You will also grow the mechanical engineering team through design review leadership, mentorship on the wearable stack, and hiring. REQUIREMENTS: - Exceptional mechanical intuition with instinctive understanding of forces, materials, and mechanisms - Proven track record owning the mechanical architecture of a shipped wearable, head-worn, or handheld consumer device end-to-end, with ability to articulate both chosen and refused tradeoffs - Deep expertise packaging cameras, sensors, compute, and batteries into space-constrained enclosures with tight tolerance and alignment requirements; demonstrated ability to set budgets rather than work within others' constraints - Deep hands-on knowledge of injection molding and polymer selection, from part design through tooling and T1 to production, including judgment on tooling commitment timing - Working fluency in soft goods and textiles (straps, padding, fabric-to-rigid interfaces, skin-contact ergonomics); ability to identify when specialist expertise is needed and direct it effectively - High proficiency in SolidWorks, Catia, NX, or similar CAD tools, including surfacing capabilities - Comfort with ambiguity, ability to move fast, and curiosity about how complete systems work
