Treeswift is building physical AI systems for field workers in the energy and utility sector. The company develops hardware, sensors (LiDAR, camera), and software that dramatically increase worker productivity in challenging environments. Since launching pilots in mid-2024, Treeswift has grown to work with three of the five largest US utilities, helping them reduce wildfire risk, manage vegetation-related outages, and accelerate storm recovery.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will own the CAD modeling and design workflow using OnShape, translating concepts into manufacturable hardware. You'll work directly under the Head of Hardware and collaborate with a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, field operations, software, and robotics teams to move products from prototype through production.
Key responsibilities include building and maintaining CAD files and BOMs in OnShape, driving design-for-manufacturability (DFM) improvements based on commercial product experience, managing CAD hygiene and revisions, and raising collaboration standards across the engineering team during rapid development cycles.
You should have proven experience taking physical products to market in commercial settings (not just research), hands-on prototyping skills across both 3D printing and traditional methods, proficiency in solid and surface modeling, and the ability to manage medium-to-large CAD assemblies. A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or equivalent work experience is required.
Nice-to-have qualifications include OnShape proficiency, hands-on familiarity with production methods and materials science, early-stage startup experience, and natural curiosity to jump into broader design and engineering challenges beyond pure CAD work.
Treeswift values mission-driven execution, continuous learning, and an ownership mindset. The team includes robotics experts from Penn, Caltech, and CMU, plus enterprise software veterans from Palantir, Stripe, Oracle, and MongoDB. The company is backed by leading investors including Penny Pritzker's Inspired Capital and is headquartered in midtown Manhattan with offices in San Francisco and Philadelphia.
