Matic Robots is building autonomous floor-cleaning robots powered by spatial AI and on-device neural networks. The company's mission is to reclaim time lost to household chores through reliable, privacy-first home robotics that work with only RGB cameras and edge computing.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will own parts and sub-assemblies from concept through high-volume production. Your designs ship to customers today, meaning your work gets tooled, manufactured at scale, and used daily in real homes within months. This role demands ownership across the entire product lifecycle: concept and CAD work, prototyping and iteration, component testing for performance and durability, accelerated life testing, production-ready 2D drawings, vendor collaboration on DFM and tooling, and cross-functional coordination with electrical, firmware, software, and industrial design teams.
The role is not compartmentalized. You will handle supplier calls in different time zones, run tolerance studies, build test fixtures, diagnose field failures by examining returned units, manage drawing revisions, and navigate supply-chain logistics. Success requires comfort with unglamorous work: reliability setups, documentation, customs coordination, and problem-solving outside your immediate scope. The team values general problem-solvers who prioritize company success over task preferences.
You should have production parts in the field that you personally designed, with deep fluency in at least one high-volume manufacturing process (injection molding, die casting, stamping, or MIM) at the level of gate placement, draft, knit lines, sink, and warp. You must have hands-on experience with tolerance stack-ups, GD&T application, Solidworks CAD, PDM/PLM systems, ECOs, quality systems, and FEA for decision-making. A debugging mindset—reasoning from field failures back to design decisions—is essential. A mechanical engineering degree or equivalent is required; most candidates have 2+ years of professional design experience, though strong portfolios with less experience are encouraged.
