Lab37 Robotics is developing and deploying robots designed for direct-to-customer food production, aiming to revolutionize the food industry through innovative robotic solutions. The company is capitalizing on rapid growth in the online food delivery market, which has expanded 10X in the US over five years (from $10B to $100B) and is projected to reach $500B–$1T by 2030. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will own the design and development of hardware modules within the larger robotic system. Your responsibilities include designing and developing mechanical systems for robotic applications with attention to functionality, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability. You will create detailed 3D CAD models using SolidWorks, engineering drawings, and assembly instructions. Collaboration is central to the role: you'll work closely with electrical engineers, software developers, and product managers to integrate mechanical designs with electronic and software components. You will conduct hands-on prototype building and testing, analyzing performance data to iterate on designs and optimize them for performance and efficiency. You'll participate in design reviews, presenting concepts and demonstrating prototypes to stakeholders, and manage documentation related to project plans, design specifications, and testing procedures. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and has strong proficiency in SolidWorks CAD with a portfolio demonstrating past projects. Practical experience building and testing mechanical systems is essential, with hands-on fabrication skills highly valued. You should have genuine enthusiasm for actuation, mechanisms, and robotics, strong problem-solving abilities, and an innovative approach to mechanical design challenges. Excellent collaboration and communication skills—both technical and non-technical—are required. This is a full-time, onsite role based in Pittsburgh, requiring five days per week in the office. The base salary range is $149,000–$188,000 per year, with eligibility for equity awards and annual performance-based bonuses. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid life and disability insurance, 401(k), HSA, flexible spending accounts, discretionary vacation days, 8 paid holidays, paid sick time, bereavement leave, and parental leave.
