Anduril Industries is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Sydney-based team developing advanced unmanned systems for subsurface and other domains. The role focuses on the Extra Large Autonomous Undersea Vehicle (XL-AUV) program and related initiatives, requiring broad mechanical engineering expertise across the full product lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include supporting design specifications for new XL-AUV variants and derivatives; creating detailed mechanical designs, prototypes, and builds for complex structures and mechanisms; performing simulation and analysis including modal and spectral response evaluation; ensuring compliance with maritime standards and regulations; and inspecting parts, subsystems, and vehicles against design specifications.
You will design and implement integrated systems with advanced payloads, balancing end-user needs with external constraints in a multi-stakeholder environment. The role involves contributing to reusable technology components across Anduril product lines, designing development processes for structural hardware including full lifecycle testing and monitoring, and supporting manufacturing, testing, and deployment activities including Design Validation Testing (DVT).
Travel up to 20% of the time is expected to co-locate with end-users, vendors, or integration and test teams. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team from diverse backgrounds.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Naval Architecture, or equivalent experience; professional experience as a Mechanical Engineer or similar role; capacity to work holistically on complex mechanical systems across design, implementation, operation, and sustainment; ability to learn and grow individually within a dynamic team; and ability to obtain and maintain Australian Government Security Clearance.
Preferred experience includes design, analysis, testing, implementation, and support of mechanical parts and assemblies; work in maritime defence, aerospace, or automotive industries; proficiency with NX, FEMAP, Teamcenter, or similar CAD/FEA/PLM systems; FEM modeling for stress, strain, and modal analysis; experience with welding, machining, sheet metal, injection molding, composites, or additive manufacturing; and familiarity with product delivery lifecycle including manufacturing, acceptance, deployment, and sustainment.
