Anduril Industries is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Manufacturing Engineering team in Sydney. This role focuses on designing and developing production equipment, tooling, and fixtures for advanced subsea robotics and defense systems. You will own the full lifecycle of mechanical design projects from concept through prototyping, fabrication, and commissioning.
Key responsibilities include: designing production fixtures and equipment to optimize manufacturing efficiency; performing detailed mechanical design using NX CAD with 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation; selecting appropriate materials (metals, polymers, composites) considering mechanical properties, marine/corrosive environments, cost, and manufacturability; executing engineering calculations including lifting analysis, beam loading, and center-of-gravity calculations; performing FEA simulations using NX, FEMAP, or ANSYS to validate structural and dynamic performance; optimizing designs for weight, cost, and manufacturability; designing mechanical test equipment including factory acceptance testing in submerged environments; coordinating with production teams as a design-for-manufacturing (DFM) subject matter expert; managing suppliers to meet timelines and budgets; overseeing physical assembly and commissioning; diagnosing and resolving production issues; maintaining designs in Teamcenter PLM; and ensuring all processes meet safety regulations and company policies.
Required qualifications: BS, M.Eng, or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 5+ years professional experience in mechanical engineering with focus on design for manufacturing; demonstrated project management from concept to completion; strong NX CAD skills; proficiency with FEA tools; hands-on experience with physical assembly and commissioning; strong engineering calculation and material selection skills; proficiency with engineering standards and GD&T; supplier management capability; and ability to obtain and maintain Australian NV2 security clearance.
Preferred qualifications include NX/Teamcenter experience, tooling/jigs/fixtures design background, production support in advanced manufacturing, load testing knowledge, and corrosion prevention expertise. This is an ideal role for someone passionate about mechanical design and manufacturing innovation in a dynamic, collaborative startup environment focused on cutting-edge defense technology.
