Amca is building America's industrial base by rapidly developing and manufacturing critical components and subsystems for aviation and military platforms. The company operates seven factories nationwide and delivers avionics, hydraulic, and electrical components for platforms including the F-35, F-16, F/A-18, 737MAX, 787, A320neo, A321, Mk-48, and M1 Abrams.
As a Mechanical Build Engineer, you will own the build procedures used to develop qualification hardware and iterate on initial builds to ensure highly reliable production-level builds at factories once product maturity is achieved. You will serve as the extreme owner for the build process of designed parts, spending your days on hands-on R&D for new build methodologies and specifications while working closely with the design engineering team to ensure design for manufacturability.
Key responsibilities include developing build methodology from industry standards and conducting cutting-edge R&D to improve component manufacturing processes; overseeing assembly and manufacturing procedures for new and existing hardware; acting as the extreme owner of DFM changes to part drawings with authority to make changes to eliminate repeat failures; conducting development campaigns for new manufacturing methods and writing specifications based on real-world data; trading off purchasing commercial build capabilities against in-house development; serving as the ultimate source of information for design engineers on manufacturing methods and optimization; ideating and implementing tooling for high-quality builds; identifying and executing capital equipment and layout upgrades; partnering with engineering and production teams on improvements; assisting design engineers in guiding new designs from concept to qualified, production-capable aerospace components; and prototyping new components at the in-house R&D lab with intimate involvement.
You will need a Bachelor's or advanced degree in aerospace engineering, manufacturing engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, or engineering physics, plus 1+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing, design, test, or development. Strong understanding of engineering first principles—thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and solid mechanics—is essential. Preferred qualifications include 2+ years of professional aerospace/mechanical engineering experience, 2+ years with GD&T concepts, strong project management and technical communication skills, experience with fluid and electrical systems, experience with pneumatic/hydraulic/structural assemblies, familiarity with Python/MATLAB, experience with Siemens NX or similar CAD, and DFM improvement project experience.
