Ozow is a leading fintech company redefining digital payments in South Africa and beyond. We're seeking a Marketing Manager to serve as a strategic counterpart to our Head of Marketing, combining genuine strategic input with hands-on operational ownership of the marketing department.
You will manage direct reports, own the content strategy end-to-end, and run the operational engine of the marketing function. This role offers a clear path toward a senior, department-leading position as the team grows.
Key Responsibilities:
People Management & Development: Manage, coach, and develop direct reports with clear expectations and mentorship to support their growth.
Marketing Strategy & Content Ownership: Contribute materially to broader marketing strategy as a genuine strategic partner to the Head of Marketing. Own content strategy end-to-end, serving as a second layer of review on all content before it reaches leadership, adding research depth, technical comprehension, and insight.
Departmental Operations: Operationalize the marketing function by managing brief intake, studio and team workflow, and balancing brief volume against production capacity. Run stand-ups, set accountability standards, and act as the escalation point when delivery is at risk, resolving competing stakeholder priorities.
Agency & Partner Management: Serve as the first point of contact for external partners including PR, performance, production, and out-of-home agencies. Identify co-marketing opportunities with merchants and partners. Translate strategy into strategic briefs. Support the Head of Marketing and Product Marketing Manager in go-to-market strategies. Manage external agencies across multiple disciplines to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery. Assess Ozow's participation in events and activations, taking full ownership of marketing programs.
Campaign Leadership & Performance: Lead large-scale out-of-home and digital campaigns end-to-end. Use funnel and campaign performance data (lead volume, conversion, transaction rates, revenue) to assess and improve impact. Report monthly on performance including cost per acquisition and conversion quality.
Tools, Automation & Change Management: Ensure proper utilization of work management tools or introduce and embed new systems to support brief intake and delivery tracking. Contribute to policy, process, and documentation for consistent department-wide workflow. Explore and apply AI tools to support content review, briefing, and workflow efficiency.
Requirements:
- Relevant marketing qualification (degree or equivalent)
- Proven experience owning content strategy end-to-end, not just executing content calendars
- Experience contributing to, interpreting, and executing against broader marketing strategy
- Experience in fintech or fintech-adjacent sectors
- B2B marketing background
- Experience managing marketing operations or departmental workflow, including brief intake and delivery management
- Experience managing external agencies across multiple disciplines (PR, performance, media, production)
- Strong writing and editorial judgment sufficient to interrogate and materially improve others' content
- Prior line management experience
- Experience in a scale-up or smaller, fast-moving marketing team with broad responsibilities
- Familiarity with work management tools for brief intake and delivery tracking
- Prior experience leading out-of-home or large-scale integrated campaigns
- Experience running team rituals such as stand-ups or sprint planning
