Basecamp Research is building frontier AI for therapeutic design, using proprietary genomic datasets (BaseData, 10B+ genes from 30+ countries) to train EDEN models that design cell and gene therapies, enzymes, and peptides. The company recently closed a $140M Series C (September 2026) led by S32 with participation from NVIDIA, Anthropic's Anthology Fund, and others. Offices are in London and Boston. You will own the peptide and protein platform as a commercial product, sitting between the model/science teams and business development. You are accountable for the peptide portfolio having a defined buyer, defensible claims, and credible pricing. Key responsibilities include: **Market and Competitive Intelligence:** Build and maintain a rigorous view of the peptide/protein therapeutics landscape by segment, indication, modality, mechanism trends, and delivery technologies. Track competitor activity across AI-enabled discovery platforms, peptide-focused biotechs, screening providers, and pharma capabilities. Maintain a live map of deal structures, comparables, and valuation benchmarks for platform licensing and co-development. Conduct structured voice-of-customer work with pharma R&D leaders and translate findings into prioritized, written requirements. **Target Product Profiles & Programme Definition:** Author and defend target product profiles for internal programmes, specifying differentiated properties and evidence needs. Translate partner-supplied profiles into feasible research plans with scientific leadership, including honest assessments of platform capabilities and limitations. Define stage gates and go/no-go criteria for peptide programmes and make recommendations when programmes should stop. **Productization and Roadmap:** Decide which platform capabilities become licensable products and in what sequence, balancing near-term revenue against durable differentiation. Own the peptide product roadmap end-to-end, agreeing priorities with model, data, and science teams. Define packaging and commercial models for each offering, including access arrangements, bespoke model fine-tuning, co-development structures, and asset-level licensing. Specify data needed from partners to improve models and turn broad collaboration offers into precise, written requests. **Positioning, Evidence & Partner Engagement:** Lead partner engagement and revenue generation in collaboration with Business Development. Build the peptide narrative and supporting materials: capability maps, benchmark summaries, validation packages, and competitive comparisons. Set and enforce standards for external claims, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and appropriate caveating. Support BD through partner meetings, scientific exchanges, conferences, and diligence processes. Work with scientific and legal colleagues on IP strategy, freedom-to-operate considerations, and novelty positioning for designed molecules. **Requirements:** - Ten or more years in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with substantial exposure to peptide, protein, or biologics therapeutics in discovery, development, product strategy, or business development. - Demonstrable command of what makes peptides difficult as drugs: proteolytic stability, oral and systemic exposure, receptor selectivity and off-target risk, immunogenicity, formulation and manufacturability, and trade-offs between them. - Track record of shaping and closing commercial partnerships, licensing agreements, or platform deals with pharmaceutical companies, or owning commercial strategy for a platform sold into pharma R&D. - Proven ability to author target product profiles, competitive assessments, and commercial cases that senior stakeholders act on. - Credibility in both technical discussions with computational and experimental scientists and commercial discussions with pharma VPs, without over-claiming. - Comfort operating with incomplete evidence and discipline to distinguish between validated, promising, and aspirational claims. - Excellent written English; significant portion of role involves producing documents that must be right. - Willingness to travel to represent Basecamp Research at clients and industry meetings. **Desirable Experience:** - Experience in metabolic disease, immunology, anti-infectives, or other therapeutic areas with active peptide pipelines. - Familiarity with macrocyclic peptides, peptidomimetics, non-canonical amino acids, conjugation strategies, or oral delivery technologies. - Direct experience with AI-enabled drug discovery platforms from either platform or pharma partnership side. - Postgraduate degree in life science, chemistry, or related business area, or equivalent depth acquired in industry.
