Ascend Analytics is seeking a Market Operations Manager to lead the analyst team supporting SmartBidder, a bid optimization platform managing over 5 GW of battery storage assets across ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, and ISONE. This is a hands-on leadership role reporting to the SmartBidder Business Lead with real ownership across operations and team development. You will lead a team of 4–6 customer-facing analysts responsible for keeping battery and renewable assets bidding smoothly across ISO markets. Key responsibilities include: • Team Leadership: Hire, onboard, coach, and develop analysts. Shape team culture around collaboration and high accountability. Set goals, manage performance, and support career development. • Operational Ownership: Own the analyst side of the support rotation—scheduling, coverage planning, workload balancing, and escalation protocols. Oversee new site and customer onboardings from planning through go-live. • Process & Automation: Build runbooks, checklists, and training materials that standardize workflows and reduce manual effort. Introduce AI-enabled tools and automation into daily analyst work. • Cross-Functional Partnership: Be the voice of the analyst team with Product, Engineering, and the Business Lead. Surface recurring customer issues, support QA/UAT and releases, and translate operational insights into product improvements. • Capacity Planning: Plan and balance analyst capacity across customers, ISO markets, trials, and new launches. Organize coverage to deepen expertise without fragmenting customer ownership. • Metrics & Continuous Improvement: Track operational health (support volume, response/resolution times, onboarding cycle times) and drive improvements. • Program Management: Run project initiatives for team-level work, tracking priorities, owners, and milestones, and communicating status and risks to leadership. The ideal candidate is an experienced people manager and operational leader with enough technical depth to earn the trust of analysts and engineers and troubleshoot alongside them. You'll work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where your decisions directly impact customer success and business scaling. Ascend Analytics combines advanced analytics, cloud-based technology, and deep market expertise to help energy buyers and producers solve complex challenges in grid reliability, renewable integration, and power market volatility. The company is private equity-backed and actively expanding its market presence. The role is hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) based in Boulder, CO. REQUIREMENTS: Required: • Bachelor's degree in engineering, data science, economics, finance, mathematics, information systems, or another relevant quantitative/technical field, or equivalent professional experience. • 4+ years of professional experience in energy markets, energy software, analytics, technical operations, customer delivery, or a related field. • 1+ years of people management experience, including coaching, performance management, and leading a team through growth or change. • Demonstrated project and program management skills (multi-stakeholder rollouts, launches, implementations with defined timelines, dependencies, and risks). • Sufficient technical fluency to troubleshoot with analysts and engineers and translate between technical and business stakeholders (e.g., basic SQL or Python, understanding of APIs and data feeds; subject matter expert depth not required). • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across analysts, engineers, commercial stakeholders, customers, and executives. • Demonstrated ability and interest in using AI-enabled tools to support analysis, documentation, and workflow automation. • Self-directed, highly organized, comfortable in fast-paced environments. Preferred: • Strong familiarity with wholesale electricity markets and ISO operations (CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, etc.), including bidding or asset optimization for batteries or renewables. • Experience at an energy software company, utility, independent power producer, trading firm, or other market participant. • Experience onboarding customers or managing implementations for complex software or data products. • Experience running a support, operations, or on-call rotation (triage, escalation, incident follow-through). • Experience managing a team through a scaling period (defining new roles, coverage models, specialization). • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Wrike, ServiceNow, Zendesk, or similar project management and support platforms.
