8Fleet is a Los Angeles-based technology and logistics company building operational infrastructure for modern rideshare fleets (autonomous and non-autonomous). The company operates in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Atlanta, and Miami, and is now expanding to Detroit.
As Market Manager, you will own the complete launch and operation of 8Fleet's Detroit market from day one. This is a greenfield role: there is currently no fleet, facility, or local team in Detroit. You will be responsible for securing the physical footprint (facility and lot space), building the local vendor network (maintenance, repair, cleaning, towing, fueling/charging), coordinating with central teams on licensing and regulatory compliance in Michigan, getting the first vehicles road-ready, recruiting and activating the first driver cohort, and hiring and training the local operations team you will lead.
Post-launch, you will own day-to-day fleet operations including driver scheduling across 24-hour shifts, dispatch, vehicle availability, and performance monitoring. You will manage the maintenance and repair program to maximize utilization and minimize downtime, partner with the Growth team on driver recruiting and retention, support drivers on safety and platform best practices, and manage the local operations team. You will grow the market by scaling driver supply and fleet size, expanding shift coverage and service area, and identifying demand drivers. You will build and own Detroit's operating and financial metrics (utilization, revenue and cost per vehicle, driver retention, contribution margin), analyze performance to identify profitability and efficiency gaps, manage the operating budget, and report regularly to company leadership. You will also ensure compliance with Michigan and Detroit requirements, run safety audits, and surface operational and regulatory risks early.
This is an operating role, not a planning one. You will be hands-on in the lot, in the data, and in the details. Detroit will launch with non-autonomous operations; autonomous capabilities are a future possibility, not part of the initial launch.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years in operations management, business consulting, or comparable operating role with ownership of business goals and processes
- 2+ years managing people directly, including hiring, coaching, and developing your own team
- Direct experience opening something that did not previously exist (new market, site, facility, branch, region, or line of business) and running it through its first operating months
- Track record of deciding and moving with incomplete information
- Genuine comfort with data: building analysis yourself, drawing insights, and acting on them
- Strong communication across diverse audiences (drivers, hourly teams, vendors, city officials, company leadership)
- BA/BS or equivalent practical operating experience
- Based in Detroit or willing to relocate ahead of launch; this role is on-site in market
- Willingness to work the hours a 24-hour operation demands, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, particularly through launch
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience in rideshare, last-mile delivery, car rental, vehicle leasing, or vehicle-heavy operations
- Experience operating on or alongside Uber, Lyft, or similar platforms
- Founder or early-employee experience
- Familiarity with Detroit metro market, vendor landscape, labor market, and geography
