Octopus Energy is a tech-powered energy company focused on making renewable energy accessible, affordable, and easy to understand. The Flexibility-as-a-Service (FaaS) team is building the distributed energy revolution in North America, converting home batteries, EVs, heat pumps, and smart thermostats into virtual power plants that balance the grid, generate revenue for customers, and enable greater renewable energy adoption.
As a Market Development & Flexibility Associate, you'll join a small, fast-moving team working at the intersection of wholesale energy markets, utility programs, regulatory policy, and commercial strategy. This is a generalist role requiring comfort with rapid context-switching and varied priorities.
Your responsibilities will span multiple domains:
- Utility Business Development: Engage with utilities and grid operators to develop partnerships and programs that leverage distributed energy resources.
- Wholesale Market Analysis: Analyze energy market pricing, dispatch strategies, and grid dynamics to optimize virtual power plant performance and customer earnings.
- Energy Policy & Regulatory: Contribute to regulatory filings, utility commission proceedings, and policy advocacy that shape the market for distributed energy.
- Program Delivery: Execute on commercial opportunities, including RFP responses, business pitches, and program implementation.
On any given week, you might draft regulatory comments for a utility commission, analyze wholesale market data to refine dispatch algorithms, build business development presentations, or turn around time-sensitive RFP responses. The work is varied, priorities shift frequently, and opportunities emerge with little notice.
