Anduril Industries, a defense technology company focused on transforming military capabilities through advanced autonomy, AI, and sensor fusion, is seeking a Manufacturing Tooling Engineer to join the Manufacturing Engineering team at Arsenal-1 in Ashville, Ohio.
You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining tooling, fixtures, jigs, and handling equipment that support large-scale sub-assembly production for flight-critical aerospace hardware. This role bridges design engineering and production execution, translating engineering requirements into physical tooling that enables technicians to build accurately, safely, and repeatably.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop assembly tooling, fixtures, jigs, and drill guides using 3D CAD (NX)
- Perform tolerance analysis and GD&T stack-ups to ensure positional accuracy for airframe structures
- Create detailed tooling drawings, specifications, and bills of material for internal fabrication or vendor procurement
- Support first-article tooling prove-out on the production floor, iterating designs based on technician feedback
- Develop and maintain tooling maintenance schedules, calibration requirements, and inspection procedures
- Collaborate with manufacturing and design engineers to identify tooling needs for new products, design changes, or process improvements
- Perform root cause analysis on tooling-related quality issues and implement corrective actions
- Work with external tooling vendors to source, quote, and qualify outsourced tooling
- Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews by providing tooling feasibility input
- Develop and document standard tooling design practices and reusable modular fixture concepts
- Support production rate ramp by identifying tooling bottlenecks and designing solutions to increase throughput
- Manage tooling inventory, tracking, and storage
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering; 5+ years of tooling design and development experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing (aircraft assembly tooling preferred); proficiency in 3D CAD (NX, SolidWorks, or CATIA); strong GD&T and tolerance stack-up knowledge; experience with metallic tooling materials; hands-on production floor experience; ability to read aircraft engineering drawings; familiarity with aerospace quality standards (AS9100, AWS D17.1).
