Quilt is seeking a Manufacturing Technical Program Manager / Quality Engineer to lead quality and production excellence for heat pump units in the Final Assembly, Test, and Pack (FATP) stages at a contract manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on technical role focused on ensuring defect-free delivery of mid- to high-volume electromechanical assemblies.
You will own production yield management, driving the "Top Yield Hitters" forum with the CM factory team to identify and resolve fallout drivers. You have authority to pause production on high fallout and convene teams for resolution. You will maintain real-time quality dashboards, provide detailed yield analysis to leadership, and own first-pass yield reporting and failure Pareto analysis.
On the test side, you will lead bring-up and qualification of end-of-line test stations, including capability studies and golden unit correlation. You own pass/fail limits and their traceability to product specifications, confirm test suite coverage of PFMEA failure modes, and triage test failures to separate true failures from false rejects. You maintain calibration and preventive maintenance schedules and ensure test results are traceable to serial numbers.
You will develop and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Control Plans to mitigate all critical-to-quality parameters. You keep final product inspection standards and SOPs current, capturing corrective actions from production, supplier, and field issues. You lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methods.
You manage the Out-of-Box Audit process and sampling inspections for fully assembled units, investigate assembly-level failures, and drive corrective actions (8D, CAPA) with CM and engineering teams. You act as the primary feedback loop to Design Engineering and Supplier Quality Engineering, reporting issues stemming from design flaws or incoming material defects. You work closely with process engineers to ensure proper traceability and serialization documentation.
You drive failure analysis of field-returned products, determine root causes, and drive corrective actions at the factory or with suppliers. You manage containment at the CM for finished goods requiring re-inspection. You own the quality side of the NPI-to-mass-production transition, confirming line readiness with validated assembly fixtures, test stations, and operator instructions. You review and approve fixtures and measurement tools for repeatability and reproducibility (Gage R&R).
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field
- 5–10 years in manufacturing quality or process engineering, specifically mid- to high-volume electromechanical assembly
- Proficiency in PFMEA, Control Plans, and SPC
- Strong understanding of assembly processes: leak testing, electrical safety testing, functional performance testing
- Experience managing Contract Manufacturers and driving accountability within factory teams
- Hands-on experience with measurement tools: calipers, feeler gages, CMM, OMM, colorimeter
- Knowledge of cosmetics requirements and color matching
- Hands-on experience qualifying end-of-line test stations, owning test limits, capability studies, and distinguishing genuine failures from test escapes and false rejects
- Expert-level root cause analysis skills and ability to interpret complex data sets
- Excellent interpersonal skills bridging factory floor and supplier quality/design teams
- Fluent English for overseas meetings and reporting
- Willingness to travel, primarily to CM factory during builds and potentially to supplier facilities
Preferred:
- Chinese language skills (strongly preferred for direct communication with CM factory staff)
- HVAC or consumer electronics manufacturing experience
- Six Sigma Green/Black Belt or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
- Experience standing up a quality program at a new CM or new line
