Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Manufacturing Process Development Engineer to join its Manufacturing Engineering department in Costa Mesa, California. The role focuses on designing, optimizing, and implementing robust manufacturing processes for defense products, with emphasis on manual assembly operations, dispensing applications, and technical documentation.
Key responsibilities include designing and optimizing manual assembly processes for high-volume, low-mix production environments to maximize efficiency, quality, and repeatability. You will develop comprehensive manufacturing work instructions and process documentation with clear visual aids to enable consistent production quality. The role involves engineering and optimizing dispensing operations for adhesives, sealants, thermal materials, and other critical applications.
You will provide active lineside support during production, quickly addressing process deviations and implementing solutions to maintain production flow. Responsibilities include driving issue resolution through root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive measures to continuously improve manufacturing processes. Collaboration with cross-functional teams including design engineering, quality, and production is essential to ensure manufacturability of new and existing products.
Additional duties involve evaluating and implementing process improvements to reduce cycle time, minimize defects, and increase overall manufacturing efficiency. You will develop and validate process parameters, establishing clear control limits to ensure consistent quality. The role includes supporting new product introductions by developing robust manufacturing processes that can scale from prototype to production, participating in design reviews to provide manufacturing feedback, and utilizing AS9100 standards to drive process development and issue resolution.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field, plus 5+ years of experience in manufacturing process development, preferably in a high-reliability industry. You must demonstrate expertise in creating clear, detailed work instructions and manufacturing process documentation, with experience optimizing manual assembly operations and establishing standardized work. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are essential, along with experience with dispensing technologies and manual application optimization. Proficiency with CAD software for creating assembly documentation and tooling design is required, as is experience with manufacturing execution systems and digital work instructions. An active U.S. Secret security clearance is currently required.
