Skild AI is building general-purpose robotic intelligence using data-driven machine learning. The company is at Series B and developing electromechanical robotics hardware for widespread deployment.
You will lead the manufacturing transition of Skild AI's robotics hardware from prototype into repeatable production. This is a hands-on management role where you own build execution, lead a team of assembly technicians and manufacturing engineers, and take responsibility for bringing new hardware platforms into production. The core infrastructure—assembly stations, Kanban inventory, BOM architecture, and controlled work instructions—is already in place; your role is to run it, improve it, and scale it.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver units against schedule, managing part availability, daily floor priorities, and escalation paths when builds stall
- Lead and develop assembly technicians and manufacturing engineers, setting quality standards and growth paths
- Reduce build hours substantially through process design, fixturing, and improved documentation for high-mix, high-complexity assembly
- Transition new hardware platforms from engineering release into producible builds, running pilot builds and feeding manufacturability feedback to design
- Stand up processes and fixtures for each new platform
- Own controlled work instructions and build documentation, keeping them current as designs evolve
- Potentially own the BOM and production data layer, including part numbering discipline, MBOM accuracy, and automation connecting engineering data to operations
Requirements:
- 7+ years in manufacturing or NPI engineering for complex electromechanical hardware, with meaningful time in low-volume, high-complexity production (not high-volume line manufacturing)
- Direct experience taking a product from prototype into repeatable production
- Experience leading technicians and engineers—formally or as a lead—with genuine interest in people development
- Fluency with PLM and BOM systems, with judgment to maintain BOM data integrity through design changes
- Hands-on process development: fixture design, assembly method development, tooling selection
- Demonstrated ownership of work instructions and build documentation under revision control
- Comfort working closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, including advocating for manufacturability when inconvenient
Preferred qualifications:
- Scripting for manufacturing data (Python, Apps Script, REST integration between engineering and operations systems)
- Wire harness fabrication and cable assembly experience
- Exposure to MES, serialization, or traceability systems
- Experience standing up manufacturing processes at a company doing it for the first time
