Physical Intelligence is developing foundation models and learning algorithms to power robots and physically-actuated devices. The Manufacturing Engineer will join the hardware team, working on the design and optimization of manufacturing processes for robotic systems. Key responsibilities include designing and optimizing manufacturing processes for robotic assemblies, including assembly sequences, work instructions, and cycle-time improvements. You will collaborate closely with design engineers to provide design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) feedback, driving iterative design improvements. The role involves developing fixtures, jigs, and tooling from the ground up for novel manufacturing processes to ensure build quality and efficiency for complex robotic assemblies. You will establish and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), build instructions, assembly flow documentation, and all manufacturing documentation. A key aspect of this role is leading the transition of robot designs from prototype through pilot production to eventual scale. This includes conducting root-cause analysis (RCCA) and failure mode analysis (FMEA) to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, you will define and track manufacturing KPIs including yield, throughput, and cost per unit. You will implement quality control systems including inspection criteria, test protocols, and acceptance standards. There will be deep collaboration with factory teams throughout the manufacturing process.
