Northwood Space is a modern space infrastructure company building a global network of phased array ground stations for satellite communications. The company designs, builds, and deploys scalable systems supporting national security, global connectivity, and disaster response missions.
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will own the development and optimization of manufacturing processes for advanced satellite communications ground stations. This role bridges hands-on production support with strategic planning to shape Northwood's manufacturing operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes for complex antenna systems, precision RF assemblies, and advanced electronic integration
- Designing and validating tooling, fixtures, and assembly processes to ensure repeatability, efficiency, and reliability
- Translating engineering designs into robust production workflows
- Partnering with design teams early in development to drive design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and smooth prototype-to-production transitions
- Leading root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to increase yield and reduce defects in electromechanical systems
- Developing and maintaining detailed work instructions, process flows, and assembly documentation
- Supporting environmental, thermal, and RF performance testing by creating appropriate handling, alignment, and test setups
- Evaluating, specifying, and procuring production equipment while balancing floor space, budget, and scalability
- Leading make-versus-buy trade studies to determine in-house versus outsourced capabilities
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial Engineering, or related field; proficiency in CAD (e.g., Siemens NX) for tooling and fixture design; 2+ years of manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or hands-on hardware experience; strong knowledge of manufacturing methods including precision assembly, welding, adhesives, and mechanical fastening; strong troubleshooting skills and creativity.
Preferred: experience developing work instructions and process documentation; hands-on experience with complex electromechanical or RF hardware; basic understanding of electrical and RF systems for effective integration during assembly and test.
