Relativity Space is developing advanced rocket technology, including the Terran R vehicle, using innovative 3D printing and manufacturing techniques. The company is building both hardware and the manufacturing infrastructure to serve the growing commercial space launch market.
As Manager of Turbomachinery Engineering, you will lead a large, multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for the design, analysis, and development of all turbomachinery systems for Relativity's rockets. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll shape turbomachinery design philosophy, set team and department-wide technical roadmaps, and drive the development of propulsion systems that power Terran R.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and mentoring a large team of turbomachinery engineers across multiple technical disciplines
- Overseeing the complete lifecycle of turbomachinery products: design, analysis, development, qualification, and flight operations
- Establishing technical standards, processes, and best practices for turbomachinery engineering
- Driving recruitment, performance management, and talent development within your team
- Collaborating across propulsion, manufacturing, avionics, and software teams to integrate turbomachinery into the broader rocket system
- Supporting exploration of next-generation engine concepts, including thrust upgrades and design-for-manufacturability improvements
You should be a self-starter capable of leading complex projects with minimal oversight, deeply invested in your team's growth and success, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving startup environment where technical rigor and creativity are equally valued. The role offers significant influence over product direction and rapid professional growth in a company at a pivotal moment—early enough to shape culture and process, but far enough along that hardware is tangible and momentum is building.
